Choosing a Weekly Topic

Many people have complimented me on the column but they worry that I will run out of serious things to write about.  I don’t think about that too much.  Of course, being a Cabinet minister gives me a unique perspective on a wide cross-section of national issues.  I try to responsibly share the information that I have with the public so that they too may be informed.  I try to keep my articles objective, frank and informative.  A characteristic feature of Flashpoint will be a setting out of both sides of an issue.  My views are offered as my views.  You might say I am unfairly trying to influence people.  I would answer, I have a right to do that.  I try to do it with facts, reason and argument.  But I don’t worry too much about running out of issues. Obviously, the hot topics of the week are the juicy ones. The more controversial the better.  But when there are none of those, I’ll just have to dig around in the past.  Eight full years in government should give me a lot of topics to play around with.
